In biblical times, the words midbar (wilderness) and aravah (desert) were interchangeable. The desert was a desolate, inhospitable and even dangerous place where leopards, hyenas, wolves and other wild animals would roam. Yet, the desert in modern-day Israel elicits different feelings. This palette is inspired by the arid beauty of the desert landscapes of the Negev and Aravah where savage beasts no longer reside.

Variety of silks, some textured, in golds and creams appliquéd on a silk noil or fine, light-weight wool* background.

Wording on atarah:
Va'yasem midbara ke'aiden ve'arvatah ke'gan Adonai
And he will make her wilderness like Eden, and her desert like the garden of the Lord (Isaiah 51:3)
